Saudi Arabia Condemns Suicide Attack in Mogadishu

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia strongly condemned the suicide bombing that struck a military camp in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, killing at least 13 people and injuring 21 others.

The attack targeted young recruits who were waiting to register at the camp.

In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom’s sincere condolences to the victims’ families and extended its sympathies to the government and people of Somalia.

The ministry reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s firm rejection of all forms of terrorism and extremism and emphasized the Kingdom’s solidarity with Somalia in confronting such acts of violence.

Mogadishu continues to face repeated attacks from the al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group al-Shabab, which has waged an insurgency in the country for over a decade.

The group regularly targets military and government facilities.

In July 2023, a similar suicide attack at the Jaalle Siyaad Military Academy in Mogadishu killed 25 soldiers and wounded 70 others. Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for that incident as well.
